Sleep Congress 2012

The South African Society of Sleep Medicine (www.sassm.org) takes pleasure in announcing that it will host a 4 day Congress titled "THE BRAIN, THE MIND AND SLEEP" at the Elangeni Hotel in Durban, South Africa from the 8th to the 11th of November 2012.

Thought leaders in the field of Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurophysiology, Psychology and Sleep Medicine will convene in South Africa to learn and teach on the following areas:
1. Neurological Disorders and Sleep: Research and Clinical Updates on Parkinson’s Disease and Sleep, Restless Legs and Movements Disorders, REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder
2. Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry : Affective Disorders and Sleep, Memory Sleep and Cognition – Dementia and Sleep, Forensic Aspects of Sleep,
3. Cardiology – Cardiovascular Disorders, The Brain and Sleep – is there a connection
4. Pulmonology – The impact of OSA on Neuro-cognitive function – what are the links?
5. Recent updates on Dental Sleep Medicine and ENT Surgery and Sleep Disorders will form part of the presentations.

The Training and Teachning Programme will include:

1. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBTi) Course run by Professor Michael Perlis
2. A training course on Sleep Technology will be conducted by Senior International Sleep and
Neurophysiology Technologists and Trainers.

This is the first ever meeting of its kind to bring together these disciplines under one roof at the same time in South Africa.

We hope that it will provide a unique opportunity to hear and learn about the fast emerging field of SLEEP NEUROSCIENCE in the 21st Century.
