The 12th BSS Spring meeting is taking place this year at the University of Warwick; Thursday 22nd to Friday 23rd April.The meeting includes presentations on paediatric and adult aspects of sleep, payment by results & new sleep tariffs, educational updates, plus 3 workshops covering the non-PSG aspects of sleep diagnostics and therapy. The British Sleep Society successfully hosted The International Sleep Medicine Course and The Annual BSS Scientific Meeting BSS 2009 at Robinson College Cambridge between 27 September and 1 October 2009. BSS 2009 Abstracts and information will be available via the members section soon. The recent 11th BSS Spring Meeting at the University of York had the largest turnout of delegates and exhibitors in its 10 year history. Organiser Julia Chapman ensured the meeting programme combined both lectures and workshops, covering up to the minute sleep diagnostics and therapy issue. Dear Members (both current and future) - We are setting up an easy payment system (PayPal) via this website, prior to a complete overhaul of the website itself. Subscriptions for new members are now £25 per year. For existing members paying by standing order or cheque, your subscription renewal will remain at £10 until 1st March 2010, following which you will be encouraged to use the simple electronic payment method to pay the new membership rate of £25. Non-members wishing to join the BSS should complete the full application form and can now follow this link to apply and pay £25 for membership online. The British Sleep Society is proud to have been part of the organisation of ESRS 2008, the largest sleep meeting ever held in the UK. This is an important springboard for the development of education, research and clinical services for sleep related problems. The British Sleep Society is looking to move forward on these fronts over the next few years. This is an exciting time for everyone involved in sleep, and the British Sleep Society is here to help. Following the successful British Sleep Society hosting of The European Sleep Research Society 2008 meeting in Glasgow, abstracts from the conference, published in the Sleep Research Journal, are available for viewing by BSS Members in the Members Section. Tiredness Can Kill' has been published by the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency, offering advice for drivers on the risks of sleepiness while driving. Leaflet available here. The BSS 19th Annual Scientific Meeting took place at Robinson College, Cambridge in September 2007. Programme and abstract information is now available for download here (pdf document). The latest BSS Service Provider Directory is now available. BSS Members can access the directory via the members section. This section is password protected. Members can obtain their username and password from the webmaster by providing details of their name, work address and BSS membership number. Once we have confirmed membership you will receive your password by email. The abstract booklet from the 17th British Sleep Society Annual Scientific Meeting, 25 to 27 September 2005 is available to download here (PDF). The Primary Care Sleep Group, a collaborative effort between the BSS and Taylor Paten Communications, now has its own web site. The group is a forum for GPs from around the UK who have an interest in sleep medicine. Visit the Technical Forum section - for members to share their experiences using technology in sleep medicine. UK & European News The British Society of Dental Sleep Medicine was formed and officially launched in April 2005. Its mission is to improve the treatment of patients with sleep disordered breathing through the involvement of dental parishioners and the utilization of education and oral appliances. Further information can be found on their web site www.dentalsleepmed.org.uk Taylor Patten Communications, with assistance from an unconditional educational grant from Cephalon UK Ltd, have also produced an informative document - ''Guidelines on the diagnosis and management of narcolepsy in adults and children''.
